Interior painting has become a big deal over the decades, we are way past that time where anything just goes for the painting of the interior of your building. Now, you have to meticulously choose what the interior of your building should look like. As much as we agree that the painting is not the only thing that is important when it comes to interior design or the general design of your building, we are pleased to state that a building without painting is just like a person without complexion, you will definitely know something is off. Thus, painting is really congruent to the appearance and feel of any building.
Considering how important painting is, most times, it comes with many issues especially on the choice and because some of us get tired, we end up settling for just anything. A “just anything” painting, makes your building as random as the choice. There are, of course, basic things that should be put into proper consideration before choosing the painting for your building.
A perfect example is someone who sets out to paint her house all pink and because you have made such a decision, you think the color choice is all that really matters to bring your dream come through. On the contrary, it will be beautiful to note that there are some other imperatives when choosing your painting, some of which will be briefly explained.
First, you should know that the interior painting of your building, ideally, should differ from the exterior painting. You know the way for many of us, the sort of clothes we wear within our house is quite different from those we wear out of the house. This is not in reference to the quality of the paint in terms of inferiority and superiority but in other terms. The interior paint is made with more rigid resins when compared to the exterior painting (resins are solid or liquid synthetic organic polymer used as the basis of plastics, adhesives, vanishes, paints and other products). This is simply more rigid in the interior, to make it easier to clean and to resist abrasion. While the exterior paint has additives that make them last longer with features like resistance to cracking, fade prevention, mildew and mold resistance, general dirt resistance and protection from ultraviolet rays. They also have flexible resins when compared to the interior paint to keep the paint looking good when the underneath surface goes through contraction and expansion.
Another important point about painting for your building is the question of the kind of building it is. The texture and color of paint for the interior and exterior of a hospital would surely differ from that of a museum, considering their widely separate operations and activities. The painting should project the organization itself, the choice of paint color, paint texture and paint quality will determine just how well the organization or home will be projected.
The cost is always a major factor in the choice of anything generally and the ditch many of us gladly fall into is that of “the cheaper the better”. Who doesn’t want to keep his money? We encourage financial prudence but much more, we stand for quality. Many times, it is actually the cheaper, the lesser quality. You might not want to believe this but if you don’t want to come back crying about your paint peeling off after few months, do not let the cheapness of the paint be a priority, search for quality.
You must never forget your interior paint finish, it is like the icing on the cake. It determines the type of look the paint has once it dries. Here, you have the liberty to choose the type of finish you want for your building depending on how you want it to turn out. So we will just be giving you the basic types of paint finishes that will aid your choice. However, the different finishes have their specific surface which soothes them best and brings out the potential they carry. There are basically five types of finishes, which will be briefly explained here.
Flat Finishes: Is the building or the room a formal one? Do you want to hide surface blemishes, like dents, holes left from nails or any form of patches? Looking for a good choice for your ceiling painting? You probably don’t want a wide contrast between the touch-up paint and the rest of the painted surface? Then, flat finishes are just perfect for you. It will give you the smoothness and uniformity.
Eggshell: Low gloss but more reflective than flat sheens. Easier to clean than the flat finish and is very durable. It is suitable for family rooms and hallways.
Satin: This is the most popular finish paint for interior painting. It can be easily wiped or scrubbed lightly. They are good for kid’s rooms especially.
Semi-gloss: More reflective than the satin but not as shiny as the gloss, it has a shiny appearance and increases the brightness of the room. Pale shades of lighter colors are brightened with the glossy effect. It is the easiest to clean and is ideal for bathrooms and kitchens.
Gloss: this paint finish has the highest level of reflection and is often used on doors and cabinets. It, however, requires more coats than the less glossy paint finishes.
